fixing the clutch play

hiya great site by the way. got most the info i need just stuck on fixing the clutch play. in the water pump part what is dose the washer look like that i have to remove im just about to tack it all off and remove it but i dontwanna start untill im sure what im looking for. if you have some pics or a diagrame to show what im looking for. that would be excellent
